The Sketchbook Challenge

THE GREAT SKETCHBOOK CHALLENGE:

Below is a video of me explaining the challenge. If you are interested in participating in this challenge, you can watch the video or if you’d rather you can just read about it below. Also if you’re getting to this late feel free to jump in at any time. At the end of every month I will do a sketchbook tour, you can follow along at NEVER STOP GROWING on YouTube.

Sketchbooks are synonymous with being an artist, in fact if you consider your self an artist you probably have one. Sketch books are a place where thoughts first take shape. When looking through them you get a glimpse into someones head, all the things that they are interested in and all the problems they are working on.

As much as I love sketchbooks, I can NEVER seam to fill one! So I have set a goal not to finish 1 sketch book but to finish 12!

OVERVIEW:

The great sketchbook challenge works like this: I must fill 1 sketchbook with 100 pages every month for a whole year, starting in March 2021. Now I know this is mid way through the year but, hey “no time like the present” right?

So here is the break down of how it works. Each month will have a topic that the sketchbook is based around. These topics are as follows:

MONTHS & TOPICS

March: Handlettering

April: Illustration

May: Life Drawing

June: Figures

July: Animals

August: Plants

September: Landscapes

October: Architecture

November: Food

December: Transportation

January: Line Drawing

February: 100 Portrates

I have purposely made all of the topics broad and I realize that there may even be some overlap within the topics. This is hopefully to encourage various styles and mediums in order to maintain interest, while allowing me to focus on growth on a particular topic.

There is no set medium that must be used, in fact I encourage using as many mediums as possible. Every page in the sketchbook does not have to look pretty, the goal is just to fill 100 pages and in doing so, fill a sketchbook and hopefully become a better artist.

SKETCHBOOKS:

Lastly, a word on sketchbooks, there is no stipulation on the size or quality of sketchbook. It just needs to have 100 pages, even if this means you have to tear some pages out.
